Additional Excursions

Lake Garda Cruise (Sirmione Cruise) - An adventure amongst the Lake itself, with a boat cruise around the peninsula, giving you unique views and showing you highlights of one of the most important tourist centres of the Lake - Sirmione. The twenty-minute boat ride is a sure-fire way to get amazing photos of the lake and the fortress.

Currency

In Italy, the currency you will require will be Euros. Star Tours’ advice passengers to exchange any spending money for their holiday before they actually travel or at the airport.

Whilst on tour it is very inconvenient and not all places we will be visiting will have ATM machines or accept credit/debit cards.

We also advise our passengers to keep some change in coins on them whilst on tour as using toilets in many parts of Italy is not free.

Distances

As this is a flight tour, there will not be many long journeys. The journey from Rome to Capri is around 3.5 hours. It is advisable to wear comfortable shoes as there will be considerable amounts of walking involved as narrow roads do not allow coaches to enter most of the cities in Italy.

It is advisable passengers carry necessities that they may need for each day such as water, dry snacks, cameras etc. with them in their hand luggage. On the first and last day, passengers must carry their passports in their hand luggage as passports will be needed at immigration.

Please see a summary of the distances you will be covering below:

Food

Breakfast will be provided at the hotels. The breakfast is usually in a separate dining area of the hotel and is usually a continental breakfast, which will consist of tea, coffee, bread, cereals, fruit and yoghurt.

Passengers can choose from different diets, including vegetarian, Jain or non-vegetarian (Halal will not always be available) meals. Passengers should advise the tour representative of their preferred diet on day one. The meals are pre-set buffet, and a choice of menu is not available. Meals will be provided with tap water only.

Lunches are usually vegetarian only and are provided outdoors at a service station/rest area where limited, or no seating is available. Lunch is served in a picnic style buffet arrangement. Dinners are usually provided within the hotel or restaurant in a separate dining facility. You should always consult your tour representative if you are not sure of what ingredients a dish contains.

Hotels

Not all hotels in this tour will have air-conditioning so you should carry a small portable fan with you especially during the summer months.

Please also note that not all hotels provide a kettle so if hot water is required for warming milk etc. in the hotel then it is advisable to carry a bottle warmer/kettle as well as a thermos flask. Passengers may also want to carry a small travel iron and hairdryer etc., as many hotel rooms may not have these facilities.

Some hotels in Europe, especially Italy will provide two single beds put together as a Double occupancy room, as this sort of configuration allows the hotel to use a room for multi-use, we do contract with such hotels, and you should be prepared for such eventualities.

If you use services such as the phone or mini-bar or pay TV whilst in your room, you will have to pay the hotel directly when you check out; these services are not included in your tour cost.

The maximum occupancy per room on this tour is 3 person(s).

Other Advisories

Vatican

When visiting the Vatican City and St Peter’s Basilica, we highly advise that modest clothing is worn as it is a place of worship and entrance is subject to attire.

Venice Gondola

The gondola boat ride in Venice will be shared with the group, and private gondolas are not available. The gondola will hold 6 people.

Pick up and Drop off points & Times

Passengers should arrive at the airport where flights are done by Star Tours at the allocated time. If you are doing your own flights, then you will need to meet the tour rep directly at the arrival terminal at the destination.

You will be sent an ATOL certificate if your flights are done with Star Tours.

Your flights will be confirmed by our agent with you 24 hours prior to departure.

You should always follow the protocol for flights as set out by the airline. You should check the board at the airport for any flight delays, change of gate number or any other useful information provided by the airline.

Visas & Passports

A passport valid for three months beyond the length of stay and issued within the past 10 years is required by all nationals. Except EU nationals holding a passport or national ID card which is valid for the duration of stay.

Weather

With its hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters, Italy experiences a Mediterranean climate. Winters in Italy are cool and humid in the north and the mountainous zone. Sometimes cold air from northern Europe can spread south into Italy. Bring snow to most mountains, while the coasts are kept warm by the high sea temperatures. Storms like the Mistral can bring snow and gales, sometimes even in southern districts of Italy.

The summer can be quite hot in Italy, mainly in the south of the peninsula, with high nocturnal temperatures of usually 28-33°C, but sometimes even 40°C. Thunderstorms are quite common, especially in the northern areas. The Mediterranean climate in Italy has often local variations. Surrounded by warm seas and with mountains close by, the coast always has a breeze; mountain areas are usually cooler with clear sunny skies, but sometimes local showers or thunderstorms in the afternoon. Hot air rising from the sea can cause heavy thunderstorms especially in early autumn, but these bring often the only summer rain that rapidly evaporates. In spring and fall, the Sirocco, a warm wind from Africa, raises the temperature of the peninsula, in the summer these Winds can bring very hot, unpleasant weather, sometimes even up to the northern districts of Italy.

Wheelchairs & Child Seats

We will accept lightweight manual wheelchair for travel, subject to them being capable of being stowed in the luggage hold of the coach. It is also essential that a family member is also on tour to push the wheelchair. Star Tour’s will also request hotels for suitably equipped rooms; however, this is only on a request basis and cannot be guaranteed.

For us to request a wheelchair for you with the airline, this request should be made to us in writing at the time of booking. The allocation of the wheelchair will be at the discretion of the airline/airport.

In most of Europe, the use of child seats in coaches is mandatory for children under the age of 12 or who are shorter than 150 cm. Children under 7 years old or less than 125 cm tall must use a child seat with a harness or a restraint system. Children between 7 and 12 years old or between 125 and 150 cm tall must use a booster seat or a seat cushion. It is the responsibility of the child's parent or guardian to provide the appropriate child seat for their child.
